SWE | GGA Partnership

Girls Global Academy (GGA) Partnership Overview

GWU SWE is incredibly delighted to announce our new partnership with the Girls Global Academy (GGA) located right here in Washington, D.C. GGA is a community of dedicated innovators who believe girls matter. Through their daily work, they are committed to actions that equip the next generation of leaders to navigate the world with confidence and compassion to succeed in any path they may choose. They provide a diverse group of young women a global education that ignites empowerment and develops the confidence to influence change for global benefit.

GGA has three primary focuses:

  1. The program will have distinctive engineering and business pathways;

  2. A school culture that values all learners by working daily to fulfill the four promises of sisterhood, scholarship, service, and safety;

  3. Service-learning projects that extend rigorous academics to provide experiences outside the classroom.

SWE's Mission with GGA

Here at GWU SWE we are committed to fostering a sense of community amongst all female engineers: both studying and aspiring. Our partnership with GGA is the ultimate opportunity for us to continue our efforts of inspiring the next generation of female engineers. To make our partnership with GGA as beneficial as possible, we selected seven female engineering students to serve as Core Mentors. Our Core Mentors have made a commitment to play a vital role in helping to educate and to inspire an interest in critical thinking and problem solving to help GGA students cultivate an engineering mindset

GWU SWE has a diverse set of goals to achieve through our partnership with GGA. First, we aim to educate the students on a variety of engineering disciplines including systems engineering, biomedical engineering, computer science, civil engineering, and much more through instructional lessons and hands-on activities. Second, we aim to create an inclusive environment where the students feel comfortable voicing any concerns regarding the high school experience, the college applications process, the college life, or the professional world with the GGA core mentors. Lastly, we aim to establish a strong mentorship program to facilitate open and honest communication across the Core Mentors and the students.
